What is a social worker?
A social worker is a professional offering assistance to individuals and families suffering from social problems such as domestic violence, trouble at school or at a workplace or loss of autonomy, etc. A social worker is able to elucidate problems and offer practical advice and tips that the person can then apply when the problematic situation occurs.
A social worker offers support to individuals in order to ensure their optimal social well-being and improve their quality of life. To do this, a social worker analyzes the way in which a person fulfills their social roles with others and with their environment. Families naturally benefit from this too.
Social workers are often specialized in helping particular groups of people for example adolescents or the elderly. They develop their field of expertise allowing them to assess a complex social situation and help guide and provide tools for the person to overcome or face their issues. They often collaborate with other professionals within the health care network and social services.
A social worker is able to listen carefully to their patients problems in order to understand them and suggest concrete solutions that are in harmony with their social environment. A social worker works respectfully and with individuals or families in order to assess the social environment in an unbiased manner.
Clinique GO™’s social workers are all in current members of order of the Ordre des travailleurs sociaux et des thérapeutes conjugaux et familiaux du Québec.

They will analyze all these different elements in order to comprehend the person’s situation as well as their reason for seeking help. They will define goals and will recommend ways the patient can help overcome their social issue. The social worker with guide the patient and family if needed, through each step, until they reach their goal(s) and resolve the issue.
