What is ergonomics?
Ergonomics is a discipline that aims to design environments, tools, systems and products in such a way as to make them suitable and effective for users. The term “ergonomics” comes from the Greek “ergon”, meaning work, and “nomos”, meaning law. It therefore refers to the “law of work”, or the principles for optimizing working conditions.
The main aim of ergonomics is to adapt the working environment to the abilities, needs and limitations of individuals, in order to improve their well-being, safety and performance. It is based on scientific knowledge of anatomy, physiology, psychology and human-machine interaction. It can be applied to many fields, such as the design of workstations, medical devices, electronic products, vehicles, computer interfaces, websites and so on. It takes into account aspects such as posture, body movements, visibility, accessibility, ease of use, workload, cognitive capacities (e.g. how information is presented) and many other factors.
In short, ergonomics aims to adapt work environments and tools to the needs of users, optimizing their comfort, safety and performance.
In what contexts are ergonomics services offered?
Our services are offered both in person, at home for individuals or in the workplace, and virtually. An virtuel assessment can enable a professional to remotely assess a workstation and provide advice on ergonomic adaptation.
In this sense, people in different contexts can call on our ergonomics services:
- Ergonomics at home can help a person teleworking to have an optimized workstation and adopt good practices and postures.
- In the workplace, our services can help adapt workstations for office workers.
- Companies in the manufacturing and medical sectors can also benefit from our ergonomic services to adapt workstations.
In which areas do your ergonomists work?
Our online services are available throughout Quebec. For in-home and workplace ergonomics, services are offered in the Montreal region, more specifically on the Island of Montreal, in Laval, as well as on the South Shore in Longueuil, Boucherville and Brossard.
